We are the Jones’. Just two young at heart people, too young to be considered Baby Boomers and too old to be considered Gen X’ers. One group we can say we identify with now are the early retirees.
The idea to take on the Full Time RV’ing lifestyle started oddly enough with a search into the new popular Paleo Diet. I come across Mark’s Daily Apple website devoted to the Paleo lifestyle. He offered a book for sell, but before I was going to spend my hard earned money on the latest diet trend, I had to read some reviews. This led me to a review by Mr. Money Mustache, who turns out to be an early retirement guru on the Web. After reading several articles on the Mr. Money Mustache Blog, I realized I might not have to work until I’m 70 like I originally thought, but could retire much earlier with a few simple life style changes. After a couple of searches into financial independence and early retirement, I ran into people who were living full time in their RV, traveling from place to place relatively cheap. The seed was planted.
Two years ago, we sold our house and got rid of half our stuff – the other half would go two years later – and moved into a condo much closer to work and started to save as much money as we could to reach our magic number. This happened in the summer of 2016. On September 2nd, we put in our notices at work. My work graciously suggested and allowed me to take a one year leave of absence, just in case things didn’t go as planned. With the help of family and friends, we were able to store and prep our RV, sell, donate and give away most of our remaining things. Thanks to some very generous people, our most valued possessions are stored on the top of a shelf in a barn in Michigan.
On October 3rd, 2016 we hit the road.
